Qualification Examination
The Qualification Examination is a mandatory stage for Master’s and Doctoral students in the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program at the University of Mogi das Cruzes. Its purpose is to assess the scientific consistency, methodology, and feasibility of the research project under development.
The examination consists of the presentation and defense of the research project before an examining committee, in a closed session restricted to the evaluation committee and the advisor. At this stage, the student must demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the subject, methodological clarity, and critical thinking skills for carrying out the project.
To register for the Qualification Examination, the student must:
- Be regularly enrolled in the Program;
- Have passed the English language proficiency test;
- Have passed all mandatory courses in the program;
- Comply with the deadlines established in the academic calendar and Internal Regulations.
Recommended deadlines for completing the qualification examination:
- Master’s Degree: between the 12th and 18th month after admission.
- Doctoral Degree: between the 18th and 30th month after admission.
The examining committee is composed of faculty members from the Program and, when applicable, external members, in accordance with internal regulations. Passing the Qualification Examination is an essential requirement for continuing in the program.
